About the Dunbar History Club
Paul Laurence Dunbar High School hosts a Kentucky Junior Historical Society Club with the aim of learning about Kentucky history. Club members participate in numerous events in the state of Kentucky, from National History Day to visiting historical sites. The club strives to underscore the importance of local history in the school community and raise awareness of the cultural riches that the state contains.
This website was created with the purpose of educating those interested in Kentucky's heritage and history about local historical locations that could be visited. It is the great hopes of the club that this site will help to highlight interesting Kentucky sites and inform the public of the multiple interesting facets of State history that can go undiscovered by state cchigh school curriculum. |
The Importance of Kentucky History
Kentucky is a state with a rich history dating back to the 1700s. Granted Statehood in 1792, it became the first state located west of the Appalachian Mountain Range. As history pushed forward, Kentucky has been given notice in many important events, like the civil rights movement, and Civil War. In addition, Kentucky is also home to many famous historical figures, like Abraham Lincoln, Jefferson Davis, and Henry Clay. Learning about Kentucky State history will help enhance understanding about an important U.S. state, also known as, "The Horse Capital of the World."
